Let it Flow

Suno Fall/Winter 2010

I am currently studying a degree in International Development and Inequality and I often struggle to balance my knowledge of the suffering of those in the "Third World" and my interest in fashion; it seems superficial, self-indulgent and harmful. For this reason, I am in love with SUNO. Started in 2008 by Max Osterweis, SUNO employs local Kenyan's who are treated fairly and respected for their talents. This is a positive project that showcases the incredibly artistry found in Kenya, rather than focus merely on the turmoil and suffering that is experienced there.

Inspired by Osterweis's collection of fabrics that he gathered over more than a decade of visits to Kenya, sample and pattern makers in NY city's Garment District send their patterns and samples to small workshops in Kenya, where the garments are produced. This is an amazing feat, and I have to say that I'm flabbergasted. Whilst I have been aware of ethical clothing companies, this is the first high end line I have found. I am a huge fan!

Solee - Ice

I've recently met a new group of people who share a very similar taste and interest in music to myself, and it has lead to new musical horizons opening up! I'm becoming familiar with new artists, sounds and styles and it's pretty exciting! I'm also becoming more attuned to the nuances within different dance genres, such as progressive trance, progressive techno, minimal techno, fidgit and so on. I shall be posting some on here, so I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Gail Sorronda Spring/Summer 2010

This Brisbane based designer is heading for the big time after being scouted for freelance design work by a Paris-based agent that represents designers such as Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy), Nicholas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) and Roberto Cavalli!

She is also in the running to win a solo show at Milan Fashion Week and a standalone spread in Vogue Italia! On top of this already staggering achievement for a label that began in 2005, the Gail Sorronda label is already distributed in Belgium, The Netherlands, the UK and Japan.
