Alex Grey is a man of incomprehensible talent in my opinion. I am always interested in art and literature that looks at the interplay between the mind, body and spirit and Grey's work accomplishes this in such a thought-provoking and incredibly beautiful way. I love the fact that the subject of his work are such archetypal human experiences such as praying, mediation, making love, kissing, pregnancy and dying. Grey is a prolific artist and it boggles the mind that one person can contain so much talent! You can go to his website here to see more of his work.

Alessandra Ambrosio for Russh August 2010
I love this cover! I generally wear no make-up because I hate to feel "made up" and it makes me feel insecure; when I wear make-up it feels like I'm presenting a false impression of myself. When I see this cover however, I am inspired! I reaaaaaaaallly suck at smoky eyes - unfortunately I usually look like I have a black eye, but I'm now determined to give it another go!

Party Time
I'm a huge dance music fan, especially techno, minimal, dubstep and the harder forms of electro. During my year in Amsterdam I got to see brilliant DJs such as Pan Pot, Len Faki, James Holden, Vitalic, The Subs, Dr. Lektroluv, Boys Noize, Crookers, Klipar, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing and Proxy just to mention a few! I assumed my quality clubbing nights were over until I headed back to Europe, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised, after seeing James Holden on the weekend and a few promising local dj's lined up for the coming weeks. Fun times are not over!

Delicate Beauty
I was struck by this photo for a few reasons...for one, the model, Jacquelyn Jablonski, is...I dunno how to explain it...real? A bit raw? Really freakin' beautiful? I'm liking the strong brows and I could easily walk out the door in those clothes. I found this photo on this blog, but I can't see which designer it is...anyone know?

Dries Van Noten Fall 2010
I'm a huge fan of Dries Van Noten's aesthetic: relaxed and undone whilst chic and sophisticated. I feel too young and unsophisticated (and poor) to wear these clothes now; they convey are more serious and mature version of myself. I still take inspiration from his designs however, and his Fall 2010 collection was no exception.

I love the way Noten can accentuate feminine features without coming across as too girly.

Freja Beha Erichsen is awesome! Actually I thought that the models chosen for this show were outstanding!

James Holden @ Barsoma 24th July

I saw James Holden at Trouw in Amsterdam, and had one of the best nights out I've ever had. His mix of minimal, techno and ambiant results in something incredibly beautiful and uplifting; at times it feels like pure beauty. Barsoma is a lounge, bar and restaurant so I don't expect it will quite match the experience of Trouw (an incredible former factory, with soul-shaking speakers and a dark moodiness that magnified James Holden's aesthetic) but I can't wait to go nonetheless!
